Work Related Learning uses the context of work and the work environment to help young people develop the knowledge skills and understanding needed for employment. It encompasses a broad range of activities that allows students to experience working life and involves:

  • Learning about working practices
  • Experiencing the work environment
  • Developing skills for working life
  • Learning through activities and challenges set in work related contexts.

It is a statutory requirement that schools provide work related learning for their Key Stage 4 students.

Enterprise Education is a key feature of work related learning. Enterprise education involves the development of enterprise capability supported by financial capability and business & economic understanding. By taking part in enterprise activities young people gain:

  • An understanding of key economic concepts and how businesses work.
  • Enhanced enterprise skills including problem solving, risk taking and money management.
  • Greater knowledge of the local and global economy.
  • The ability to make informed judgements about economic issues.

Schools must also provide 14 – 16 year olds with five full days (or their equivalent) of Enterprise Education.

The EBP offers schools/colleges comprehensive support in the development and delivery of their work related learning and enterprise programmes; helping ensure that they meet the student entitlement. We offer advice and support for the development of a whole school delivery strategy, professional development courses and placements for individual staff and we help forge links with local businesses. In addition, experienced EBP staff working with local businesses deliver a range of business conferences and enterprise themed days.
