Careers Education and Guidance programmes make a major contribution to preparing young people to become effective planners and managers of their own progression through learning and work. CEG is an important component of the 14-19 curriculum and there is a statutory requirement for a programme of careers education to be in place for all pupils in Years 7-11. Somerset Education Business Partnership works closely with Connect South West and offers training, guidance and advice to teachers and Connexions staff in schools and colleges to help them deliver effective CEG programmes. For example: - Support with the production of policy documents, development plans and schemes of work relating to CEG
- Development of the careers education curriculum, including advice and guidance on resource materials at Key Stages 3 & 4 and post-16.
- Advice and guidance on quality assurance of careers education in line with the DfES National CEG Framework
- Advice on the CEG elements of the Self Evaluation Form for Ofsted inspections
- Periodic county-wide audits of CEG provision
- Professional development of staff involved in delivering careers education and guidance
- Highlighting and sharing examples of good practice in CEG
- Co-ordinating the Somerset CEG Practitioners Group
